By using Microsoft RMS to enforce rights management policies, Omniva will extend Policy Manager to deliver more complete and comprehensive policy solutions.

A solution based on Omniva Policy Manager enhances Microsoft RMS with policy enforcement capabilities that uniquely allow enterprises to:

- Enable sophisticated policies based on business rules.
Policy Manager automatically applies appropriate policy settings on emails and attachments, based on centrally defined, configurable business rules. For example, any message going to outside counsel could be marked "Private" so that it cannot be forwarded or read by anyone else.

- Ensure consistent policy application.
RMS-enabled desktop users are able to set policies on individual messages and attached documents, and Policy Manager enhances this capability by extending the enforcement to mail servers and relays. A combined solution enforces policies for emails and their attached documents throughout the enterprise. Email policies will be automatically enforced in a heterogeneous computing environment, with Office2003, Outlook Web Access, wireless devices, and other new and legacy email applications, for both incoming and outgoing messages.

- Extend RMS-based policy application to partners and customers beyond corporate boundaries.
Users may communicate safely with partners and customers knowing that policies are applied to all messages. Universal Viewing makes policy enforcement transparent to end-users on any email application. Policy Manager automatically selects the best viewing option for email recipients, enabling them to view messages in-line using their current email application.

- Minimize legal risk through secure retention policies.
Email messages may be retained in accordance with company policies. When emails no longer have appropriate business value, they may be deleted permanently. With Omniva's secure deletion process, Microsoft RMS is extended so that expired messages are not recoverable regardless of location. Cleanup tools also ensure these expired messages are removed from corporate mail servers and PSTs.
